Jamie Brown is a Sister in the Community of Francis and Clare and an Associate of the (Episcopal) Sisterhood of the Holy Nativity at St. Mary's in Santa Barbara, California. Sr. Jamie began doing yoga in 1976 at the age of 13 and has studied various forms of yoga including hatha, jnana, kundalini, bhakti, tantra and kriya. She was certified in kriya yoga by Self Realization Fellowship as well as Ananda Yoga Fellowship in the mid 1980s. She has had the privilege of studying with yogis including Ram Dass, Swami Kriyananda and Mark Whitwell, and in 1989 received the Empowerment of Padmasambhava from the Dalai Lama. Jamie is a Heart of Yoga teacher, a member of Advanced Yoga Practices, certified* by Expert Rating in Chandigarh, India, belongs to Independent Yoga Educators of America & Spiritual Directors International, received her B.A. Philosophy from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, M.A. Psychology from Sierra University in Costa Mesa, CA and wrote her Master's Thesis on "The Psychology of Nonattachment in the Bhagavad Gita."
Ivey Blount, a.k.a. "Hawk," is a Native American (Seminole/Creek), born and raised in Florida. The owner of Fabulous Floors LLC, he renovated the old studio including installation of the wood dance floor and tile in the bathrooms, and helped build Lothlorien House where the new studio is located and where he did all the tile floors, countertops, marble and glass block shower walls, and a great deal of the woodwork in the cabinets and ceilings. Hawk also maintains the grounds and acts as the Wildlife Conservation manager, seeking to keep a balance between preserving the wildness of the land and respecting the wild creatures, with whom he has a special rapport, while at the same time making the land accessible to our human visitors. He enjoys taking visitors on nature walks through the woods and meadows and providing instruction in zen archery and tai chi. Hawk is a Heart of Yoga teacher and a "natural yogi" per our teacher, Mark Whitwell.
